Duo Posing As Nurses Swipe Beauty Laser Treatment Machine

A Dana Point beauty shop owner and employee arrested in an undercover sting operation are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on charges of using stolen laser machines they also weren't licensed to operate. The pair are charged with false representation of themselves as registered nurses and performing laser treatments with no doctor present, an Orange County District Attorney's office spokesperson said. They are scheduled to appear in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach on Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Snezhana Semenov, 29, of Dana Point, the owner of New Way Beauty, and co- defendant Mathew Louis Finnes, 32, of Laguna Niguel, could face up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted of receiving stolen property and unauthorized practice of medicine, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Semenov's business offered a variety of laser hair removal and facial skin treatments, according to prosecutors, who said the two are accused of falsely telling customers they were registered nurses and performing laser treatments without working under a doctor or having a registered nurse present.

In May, Semenov allegedly ordered parts for one of the machines, which allowed the manufacturer of the stolen equipment to track it to New Way Beauty through the serial number, prosecutors said.

Orange County sheriff's deputies, who were investigating the burglary, made appointments at New Way Beauty in an undercover sting in which Semenov allegedly diagnosed a detective with having a skin condition that required a laser treatment.

Barring from when I brushed my teeth this morning and a mandatory meeting, I've been listening to K-pop group EXO's new album "The War", which dropped today, on repeat. I watched the music video for its single "Ko Ko Bop" on my way to work and died about half a million times. Not only is the song going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the week (or maybe my entire life) and has catchy choreography to complement it, the beauty moments spoke to me on a deep, almost spiritual level (multiple cameos from my favorite food, hamburgers, helped, too, but that's neither here nor there).

I didn't hesitate to question Kai's culturally appropriating dreadlocks and Baekhyun's mullet. However, the eye makeup, glowing skin, and rainbow hair happening amongst all eight members of EXO in "Ko Ko Bop" were more or less redeeming. I had to stop the music video several times to get a closer look at Chanyeol's makeup (more on that later) and Suho's heart palpitation-inducing flawless skin. Beauty and boy bands are truly two of my favorite things, and this music video fulfills both criteria tenfold.

Since my morning commute, I've re-watched the "Ko Ko Bop" music video too many times to count. During a couple of the viewing sessions, I captured my favorite beauty moments. Here are my top 11, starting with my No. 1 moment that occurs 14 seconds in.

Baekhyun's studded red eye makeup
BRB while I find little silver pearls like Baekhyun's, so I can recreate this look. Paired with the red brows and burgundy smoky eye action, the complete monochromatic look is by far my favorite makeup moment from "Ko Ko Bop."

D.O.'s faux freckles

This glittery liner moment was literally shown for half of a second around the 43 second mark. If you blinked, you probably missed the fact that Chanyeol's lower lash lines were glided with gold. My makeup eagle eye, of course, caught it right away. I've never been so proud of myself.

Inner eye details are one of my favorite ways to play up my makeup lately. You can add little stars or you can elongate your eye liner so it goes down to your tear ducts. This gives your eyes a sultry, cat-like effect like Xiumin.

Unlike his fellow members, Sehun's makeup and hair were pretty subdued and natural looking. Honestly, he looked like a conventionally masculine man on vacation for most of the video. I peeped his brows at one moment looking like Instagram bait, though. They were more filled in than usual and looking ever-so luscious.

Lace and Lavish Detail From Guo Pei and Ralph & Russo

They often arrive at shows wearing bespoke versions of fantastical ball gowns seen on the runway only six months before. Many flaunt dazzling diamonds the size of golf balls, glistening on ears, wrists and throats. And most spill out en masse from an armada of luxury limousines with blacked-out windows, occasionally pausing to snap a selfie or two with girlfriends along the way.

Such was the sight on the sun-baked sidewalks of Paris this week, as some of the wealthiest women in the world — part of a new generation of couture clients — took their front-row seats at lavish shows held by Guo Pei, the Beijing-based couturier; Ralph & Russo, the London house famed for its red carpet creations; and Monique Lhuillier, the Los Angeles-based bridal designer who made her Paris couture debut Monday.

"After 15 years showing in New York, it felt time to give the brand an international showcase, given how global my client base has become," Ms. Lhuillier said backstage before her show. "Also, I'm half-French, and Paris is one of the things that most inspired me to get into fashion. It feels like a homecoming of sorts."

She was surrounded by rails dripping gowns: a white and butter-yellow strapless number with a vast skirt of billowing taffeta; a caped column dress with thousands of silver beaded tassels; and a white lace mini-shift embroidered with intricate dancing butterflies and flowers.

Subtle, they were not. Yet even those who made up the well-coiffed, titled and tucked crowd in attendance at Ralph & Russo gasped when the Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor closed the show at the Grand Palais in a champagne Chantilly lace bridal gown with a double duchess overskirt of epic proportions, hand-embroidered with gold and silver bullion and accompanied by a bejeweled tulle headpiece. The weight of the ensemble was so great that it took five assistants to help her turn when she reached the bottom of the runway; the sale price was rumored to be more than a million euros.

The towering platform stilettos tested the constitution of models who walked for Guo Pei on Sunday night, though nothing like the challenge that faced the pop star Rihanna when she wore Ms. Pei's most famous creation: the 55-pound, canary-yellow fur-trimmed gown and cape that took seamstresses 50,000 hours to make for the 2015 Met Gala in New York.

This season, Ms. Pei's collection was full of 3-D embroidery and filmy, iridescent metallic gowns with a more slender and form-fitting silhouette — perhaps engineered to attract a younger Chinese clientele, such as the front-row guest Zhang Zetian, wife of the Chinese e-commerce entrepreneur Liu Qiangdong.

Still, dozens of other clients were on parade in some of the jaw-dropping beaded and embroidered creations that have made Ms. Pei a firm favorite of actresses, folk singers and members of the political elite in her home country. Some had skirts that took up three seats, which in a way made sense. You have to stake out your territory, as there's not much space available in the Couture Club, after all.
